Golden Gala at the Hackney Empire

Urdang is about to celebrate our 50th year of success with a Golden Gala at the Hackney Empire on 11th and 12th July 2015.

This compelling programme will include many forms of dance from tap to street alongside uplifting musical theatre excerpts. Presented by the current first and second year students, with special guest appearances from Urdang Alumni from over the years.

Urdang is known for its diverse, individual and incredibly talented young performers who will leave you enlightened, dazzled and wanting to know more about this unique and exciting London College.

Brian Friedman is new patron at Urdang

On 3rd June, Urdang officially announced, internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and creative director, Brian Friedman, as their new patron joining existing Urdang patrons, Sean Cheesman, Arlene Philips CBE, Wayne Sleep OBE and Anthony Van Laast MBE. The announcement came following an industry lecture and Q&A session led by Friedman for Urdang students at the Old Finsbury Town Hall.

Brian Friedman is new patron at UrdangBrian Friedman has worked with an impressive string of artists and celebrities to date which includes Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Prince, Mariah Carey, Usher, P!nK, Nicole Scherzinger, Christina Aguilera, One Direction, Olly Murs and many more. As a creative, his talents extend to the film industry, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle”, “You Got Served”, ‘She’s all That”, “Austin Powers Gold Member to name a few. But most of us will have heard from the influential American star from his involvement judging, choreographing and producing The X Factor UK, The X Factor USA and America’s Got Talent.

Urdang is delighted to have attracted a high profile professional who is such a fit for the academy. Brian is the perfect role model and will be an inspiration to Urdang students, especially for our boys and those students wanting a career in commercial dance. Brian will bring his talent, passion and support to students by giving inside information on how the industry works and insight on his experiences that has got him where he is today.

“I am thrilled and honored to be taking on the role of Patron at The Urdang Academy. Passing on knowledge to the next generation of dancers is not only my duty but it also warms my heart. Over the years I have watched alumni from the Academy audition for me and have cast them in many projects. They are truly receiving the best training around! Glasgow Audition Date just announced!

We have JUST ANNOUNCED that we will be holding Urdang auditions at the Dance School of Scotland in Glasgow on Saturday 22nd November!

Urdang Glasgow Auditions 2014Audition to be held at:

Knightswood Secondary School,
60 Knightswood Road,
G13 2XD

On Saturday 22nd November Urdang staff will be at the Dance School of Scotland in Glasgow to audition applicants for full-time courses at the Urdang Academy beginning September 2015.

You must apply in advance for the chance to audition. If you are interested in attending please download an application form here.

Urdang’s Link Dance Showcase ‘Sins & Virtues’ in The Dancing Times!

The ‘Sins & Virtues’ Showcase has received a glowing review on page 73 of the June issue of the Dancing Times Magazine.

The packed performance, which demonstrated the seven deadly sins, was favorably commended;


“The range of styles included in the performance showed off their versatility and highlighted the well-rounded training Urdang offers students. There were also some exceptional solos laced between the larger numbers; it is obvious that many of Urdang’s 2014 graduates will have exciting careers to look forward to.”
