Paul Harvard BA (Hons) PGCE Music Actor-Musicianship - Head of Musical Theatre
Head of Musical Theatre since 2007. Professionally he has
worked as a Musical Director and an Actor. Musical Direction credits include
‘The History Boys’ (National Theatre) Olivier Award for Best New Play 2004,
‘The Fantasticks’ (Harrogate Theatre), ‘Me, Myself and I’ (Orange Tree Theatre)
and ‘Dreams From A Summerhouse’ (Watermill Theatre). Acting credits include
‘The Gondoliers’ (Apollo Theatre) winner of the Barclays TMA Award for Best
Musical 2001, ‘Fiddler On The Roof’, which won the same award in 2002, ‘Piaf’,
‘Love In A Maze’ and ‘The Firebird’ (all for the Watermill Theatre). Paul has
also taught at Italia Conti, Webber Douglas and Mountview.
Catie Marie Entwistle ARAD - Head of Dance
As a performer, Catie began her career as a soloist in
Adonais Ballet Company. She made the transition into musical theatre playing
Connie Boylan in ‘Annie’ and covering and playing Mae in Simon Callow’s ‘The
Pajama Game’ in London, Birmingham and Toronto. Catie toured the UK covering
and playing the role of Louise Bigelow in ‘Carousel’, Dorcas in ‘Seven Brides
For Seven Brothers’ and covering Erma and Reno in ‘Anything Goes’. She also
assisted Wayne Sleep on his tour of ‘Ready, Steady Dance’. She was the Resident Children’s
Director on the UK tour of Cameron Mackintosh’s ‘Mary Poppins’. Prior to that
she was the Children’s Director and Assistant Resident Director on the UK tour
of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.
Dr Susan Cooper PhD - Head of Degree
Dr Cooper is responsible for the BA (Hons) degree programme
at the Urdang Academy. She trained at The Royal Ballet School and
professionally she performed as dancer and choreographer for Ballet Rambert
(now Rambert Dance Company) and Scottish Ballet. In her academic career she has
been full-time tutor at The Royal Academy of Dance (1983-2006), teaching on
international Summer Schools and on all Academy degree programmes. She was also
Choreography tutor at The Royal Ballet School. Susan published ‘Author Staging
Dance’ in 1998 (A&C Black). She was awarded her PhD from University of Kent
at London Contemporary Dance School in 2006.
Christine Beckley ARAD FIST (Dip) - Senior Ballet Teacher
Trained at Sadler's Wells Ballet School and joined the Royal Ballet Company at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, promoted to Soloist in 1959 and performed in many of the classics as well as ballet's created by Sir Frederich Ashton, Sir Kenneth Mac Millan, Dame Ninette de Valois and John Cranko. Joined the Royal Ballet Lower School White Lodge as ballet teacher in 1981 and was made ballet mistress in 1991. Joined the Urdang Academy in September 1999.
Neil Kagan BA (Hons) Theatre Studies - Stage & Technical Theatre/Production Manager
Neil trained at Roehampton University. He is an experienced Prop & Puppet Maker. He has worked for The Royal Academy of Music, London School of Musical Theatre and TamTam Theatre amongst many others. Neil joined the Urdang full-time in 2007 as Production Manager, and is also very happy to be teaching Technical Theatre as part of the Diploma course.
